Goals
To create a simple and intuitive portfolio website that prioritizes making it easy to understand our mission and reach out to learn more about the different services we provide.
Design a logo that matches the color and brand
The Problem
Users want to find an Officiant that respects their values that are transparent and affordable
There is an average of 2.4 million weddings each year with couples from different cultural backgrounds. It can be stressful for these couples to find an officiant who respects their values and does not subject them different rules and constraints.
The Solution
Transparency Motivates Trust
My client is a wedding officiant who desires to create the best experience for couples who encounter these struggles.
Client Vision:
“My passion is to minimize stress and provide affordable services for couples on their wedding day.”
Impact
Competitive Analysis
Current Competitors lacked clarity and forced clients to reach out to the officiants by concealing pricing information.
As an individual who has never been married before, I conducted a competitive analysis to identify the needs and challenges of potential users.
User Interviews insights
I chose user interviews as my research method they are a reliable method for identifying the characteristics users look for in an officiant and provide insight on the frustrations they encounter at their wedding.
I conducted one on one virtual interviews with participants aged between 25 and 40.
Project Goals derived from Stakeholder Interview
Before starting the design process, I interviewed my client about her vision and goals for her website. I was able to define business goals and establish expectations.
User Persona
Meet Daisy, the user!
User Flow
With the potential structure of the website in mind, I wanted to know how the user would navigate through the website. So I created a user flow that creates a simulation for the user.
Example User Task: Daisy’s friend recommended Harmony Officiant for her wedding. She went to the website to find out if the officiant is a good fit. She decided to reach out to the officiant.
Service Page Sketches Options
At the end of the ideation stage, I created three sketches of the potential layout for the Harmony Officiant service page. The challenge is deciding the optimal priority for the website’s content.
Design System
To make life easier, I created a design system
The client’s request was to incorporate a mint color into the design of her website.
I chose the typography for its elegance (Libre Baskerville) and clarity (Poppins).
The Logo has incorporated the heart and infinity symbol to represent lasting love through marriage.
Prototype
Here is the prototype created based on the High Fidelity design from above.
Usability Testing & Priority Revisions
Major Revisions in my design
Though the task was simple and all the users were able to complete the task within 5 minutes, I was able to identify a few areas of improvement by observing users’ behavior and their thoughts during user testing. These are the areas of improvement that I identified:
• Lack of division between sections, too much white space.
• Hero image is not consistent with the rest of the website.
• Values should be placed underneath the hero section for association purposes.
After creating an affinity map based on the usability test, I made revisions displayed in the images below:
If I had more time, I would explore…
• As the business grows, what would be the best ways to display portfolio information?
• If the business is opened to the public in the future how can we best promote the business to help users understand our purpose?
• How would the error display if users have trouble with sending a form through the website?
• Is there ways to make the website more accessible?
Lessons Learned
Take note of EVERYTHING. This is a habit and skill I had to learn as I worked through the design process. The information gathered from each stage was vital to informing my decisions. Therefore, capturing every thought and idea was of great importance. This technique allowed me to look back or explore certain thoughts or ideas that may have been missed during the process.
Make the effort to know your client and their users. A well-designed product takes into account all stakeholders that are involved (business, technical, and audience interests). Understanding my client’s expectations allowed me to deliver designs that aligned with her vision.
Establish a timeline that accounts for additional time spent in communication. One of the challenges I encountered was the time it took for back and forth communication. If there are no set expectations, a lot of time can be spent on waiting for information.
